when planning, winter and reality meet – three’s a crowd
the average date of the first inch snowfall in the twin cities is november 18th. last year, the first snowfall trace occurred on october 26th with the first inch following on november 7th. this year, it looks like mother nature is rushing the whole winter thing and is providing us, at least a trace of snow, this weekend.
i, of course, in my ultimate planning ahead and craziness, decided a few months ago that this would be the perfect weekend to head up to northern wisconsin, visit some family and run a 1/2 marathon. it will be a gorgeous fall day, said the voice in my head.
au contraire, voice. the screengrab below shows what the forecast is going to be for me and my other dedicated racers at the start of the race (8am) and at/around the finish (assuming i finish).
one of the things things that is keeping me from totally losing it is that i just read that there will be hot showers available at the race finish.
another thing that is keeping me from losing it is that i am not running the full marathon. thank goodness my crazy is SOMEWHAT in check these days.

I know how you feel. I wasn't counting on snow this weekend – but I guess the chili cook-off and beer-tasting in Stillwater this weekend will keep me warm enough.
